Reverence and Holiness

Reverence and Holiness

Lev 19:30 Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.

Ps 89:7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.

Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Heb 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. 11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Heb 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

The holiness of God is not a light thing. When Holiness encounters the unclean there is a reaction where the darkness is swallowed up by the light. We see this in a negative sense in the following Holiness Encounters which did not end well.

Nadab and Abihu (Lev 10/Num 3)

Achan (Josh 7; 22:20)

Uzza (1Chr 13)

Ananias and Sapphira (Acts5)

Because of the blood of Jesus we have had all our uncleanness removed and only the holy exists in our lives. This allows us to enter into the holiest place by the blood and through the flesh of Jesus Christ. The key part of reverence is to honor the Lord and those things which belong to him, this ultimately includes even the least of the brethren. Hold in reverence the holiness of God and do not treat it as a light thing, but for what it is, an intense light which no man without the new creation in Christ Jesus can approach unto.
